Q: insurance and test strip limit?
when i was first diagnosed in august 2008, i went to the pharmacy to pick up my test strips and lancets like the dr prescribed. first they told me that the insurance would cover only 150 strips in three months. i told them that my doc wanted me to test at least 2x day. that would mean that i would need at least 180. a few hours later i received a call from the pharmacy that my doctor had signed some paper and that they would give me 200 a month. i went in twice this past month and they told me the same thing, but when i went yesterday to pick up more a different lady told me that only 150 was approved and she doesnt know why they were giving me more, i had receive 5 boxes of 50 each which is 250 in less that three months and that i couldnt get anymore until mid november.i argued with her about what was explained to me in the past and she said that there was nothing she could do, she was just following what the insurance website said they would cover, and that anything that the doctor signed didnt matter. just to mention i have insurance with badgercare,, mercycare with the state of wisconsin. and i am not insulin dependent.
what i dont understand is that was a problem, why did i receive so many strips without a problem until this lady? dont you think that they would have caught it in the past. and i dont know what i should do if i am running low on strips and dont have money to buy them, its about 50-60 dollars a box. is there something my doctor can do to approve more strips to where it is that he wants me to test? i know he got the januvia approved when the insurance didnt want to cover.
i know what it is like to test after you eat every meal. that is why i am low on strips. when they first told me 200 a month, i test with every meal. when i know what my bg is it keeps me from eating to much at my next meal because i know what my bg is. now im just guessing because i can only test 2x until i can see my doc next week

A: Skip the pharmacy and call the insurance company directly. I test 6-10 times a day and they can’t say a thing. They cannot deny you these thing and they should honor what your doctor orders. Also, maybe consider a different pharmacy. Something doesn’t make sense here…
