Q: Does any-one know of a natural alternative to aripiprazole taken for schizophrenia?
I have been taking abilify (aripiprazole) for about 4 years but want to find a natural alternative to alleviate symptoms of pychosis related to schizophernia, I have researched that Rhodiola Rosea, Pulsatilla, Anacardium, opium and/or sepia could be useful does any-one know any more about this?
A: Out of your list i test sepia..
For me taking alpha liponic acid and niacidemide helps.. I think Hulda Clark recommends them for something like 9 days, I take them once and a while for a period..
When i notice a psychosis come on melatonin appears to work better then the antipsychotic (cisordinol 2mg or higher dosis if i want to) I’m on–

Q: aripiprazole is the best Dopamine partial agonist to treat psychosis?
I have a feeling it might be.
What are extrapyramidal effects.
A: There is usually no “best” medication for a given disorder since people react differently to meds and experience different side effects. For instance, aripiprazole may be very effective for one person, with minimal side effects, while for another person, it may be ineffective with many side effects.
Extrapyramidal effects are types of “side effects” from antipsychotic medications. They involve muscle movements, feelings of restlessness, or the infamous “tardive dyskenisia,” which is involuntary motor movements similar to shuffling. TD can be problematic because it can last even if the individual stops taking the medication.
Q: Is the drug ABILIFY otherwise known as aripiprazole safe for a diabetic?
My son has been prescribed the above drug. He has Prader -Willi Syndrome. Does anyone know if this is safe for diabetics as the details say about diabetics.?
A: Abilify can be used in diabetics I believe but people who are diabetic who opt to use antipsychotic medications like Abilify have to carefully monitor their blood sugar levels to make sure it doesn’t make blood sugar control worse. I’m no doctor (or psychiatrist) so don’t quote me on it but that’s what I believe the case is on this issue. Speak with the prescribing doctor. He/she should be able to tell you more information on how to properly monitor your son’s blood sugar while on the medication. I wish you best of luck.
Q: how long does it take for aripiprazole 10mg to?
come out of your system I was taking it for four months and it made me pace the floor. I am now on Olanzapine 5mg and still pacing the floor so I need to know how long before the aripiprazole gets out of my system.
A: All the way out would be about 23 days. First half life is around 3 days, and you should feel change then.
Abilify is an activating med, too much so for some with bipolar. That you are still having problems on Zyprexa could mean your dose isn’t high enough. ??? That’s a guess. What isn’t a guess is that it is very much in your interest to call your doctor.
Q: Is shaking hands and arms a normal side-effect of Abilify (aripiprazole)?
I take 15mg every morning. I don’t get any other side-effects except shaking and insomnia.
A: This could be a side effect of Abilify. It can be very nicely treated by Beta – Blocker drug like Propranolol. For sleeplessness you can try Ambien 5 mg at bed time.
Q: What are the Side Effects of Abilify (aripiprazole)?
I’m looking more for answers of people who’s on this medicine or knows someone on it.
When do the side effects start? At the beginning? Or is it later on?
A: Generally speaking, if you’re going to experience side effects, they happen as soon as you start the medication. I’ve been on Abilify for a couple years now and I haven’t noticed any side effects.
You can find a list of possible side effects here: http://www.drugs.com/abilify.html
I just read your other question, and I’m also on Wellbutrin XL with no noticable side effects. Hopefully you will be as lucky.
Q: Why is the antipsychotic drug ARIPIPRAZOLE HELPING MY DEPRESSION BUT NOT MY VOICES?
I HAVE SUFFERED FROM SEVERE DEPRESSION FOR 10 YEARS WITH NO ALLEVIATION FROM ADEPRESSANTS. NOW ARIPIPRAZOLE (TO HELP TREAT HEARING VOICES) HAS UNEXPECTEDLY ALMOST CLEARED MY DEPRESSION BUT NOT THE VOICES!!
A: aripiprazole is a partial dopamine agonist, which means that it can enhance dopamine function in the brain if it is low, but it will reduce dopamine activity if it is excessive.
Enhancement of dopamine function is known improve mood, this is how psychostimulants work and some atypical antidepressants such as bupropion.
Antipsychotic effect of aripiprazole is in the “moderate” range compared to other neuroleptic drugs, in other words it may not be sufficiently effective. Ask your doctor about other stronger neuroleptic drugs.
Q: What are the long term effects of taking Aripiprazole?
I’ve just been diagnosed with schizophrenia
A: Clinicians look for treatments that are efficacious and tolerable in the long term. This study reports that aripiprazole can provide Bipolar I Disorder patients with a combination treatment option with the benefits of good long-term safety and tolerability.”
Even though the study says “Bipolar,” I would think it would be safe for schizophrenia as well.
Q: When on Abilify (Aripiprazole) have you ever experinced excessive sleepy/drowsyness?
A: it caused me to be extremely tired all day long and couldn’t function in school so i switched to risperdal
Q: Anyone get an amphetamine effect from aripiprazole?
Noone I know has, so am I a freak?
A: One thing I can think of is that Abilify does increase the amount of serotonin and that can be stimulating.
But it also partially blocks dopamine, one of the chemicals Amphetamines increases.
So you are not a freak. Everyone reacts differently to drugs. With Amphetamines, for example, some people get very anxious and can shake but other people become calm and relaxed. Or alcohol, some people relax or fall asleep and others get angry and even violent.
Just give it some time. And you can always check with your doctor.
Good luck
Q: could my recent shaky legs be down to aripiprazole?
or am I about to face life with parkinsons?
A: Aripiprazole can cause severe muscle stiffness and tremors. Maybe you should talk to your doctor? Good luck.
Q: Can I stop taking Aripiprazole 5 mg ?
I am schizoaffective. Presently taking Aripiprazole 5 mg per day and Oxcarbazapine 300 mg per day. I am feeling very sleepy all the time and sleeping for almost 14 hrs day. I think it is because of Aripiprazole. Can i stop taking it now because it is a very small dose of 5 mg only ?
A: you need to discuss this with your doctor.
Q: What are your experiences with Aripiprazole (Abilify)?
How did Aripiprazole (Abilify) help you? Did you notice any substantial improvements in your condition?
Thanks.
Thanks to both of you. I am 21 (my birthday was last Monday) and have a diagnosis of “depression, anxiety, OCD and obsessional symptoms”.
I’ve been on four atypical anti-psychotics (including Aripiprazole) and a load of SSRIs and an SNRI. I’m currently taking Aripiprazole and Fluoxetine – the second time for the Aripiprazole and the third time for the Fluoxetine (approx).
I’m lucky in that I don’t tend to suffer with side-effects from these drugs, although I don’t find many of them to be effective.
A: I have been on Abilify for only about 3 months, but the results have been very encouraging. I have major depression and was being treated with klonopin, pristiq and lamictal. The lamictal seemed to be losing its positive effects, and my shrink added Abilify. As I said, it really seems to help, and I have not have any side effects.
As you probably know, people can react very differently to psychiatric meds. This is true for positive effects and negative side effects. So your experience with Abilify may be much different than mine. It may also depend on your diagnosis. Abilify can be used for depression, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. I wish you the best.
Q: what happenes when you take aripiprazole/ abilify?
and its not prescribed to you and you dont have any medical conditions, do u get high?
A: it is not good for you to take medications if you have no problem just to get high.
Q: I want to stop taking ABILIFY (aripiprazole) how should I do it ?
I want to stop taking ABILIFY (aripiprazole) how should I do it ? What should I do ?
A: You need to speak with the doctor that prescribed it for you, so you can follow a program to wean yourself away from it safely. Whatever you do, don’t stop taking it on your own, it could have bad side effects or withdrawal effects for you. Best of luck.
